MEMBER PROFILE
Jane Firth - Ullswater Felt Art
Jane is a fibre artist working out of a studio overlooking Ullswater. She buys fleeces from local farmers and carries out every stage in the process from raw fleece to finished, framed picture herself. She started her felting journey with Herdwicks and Swaledales her favourite sheep, but after joining the Rare Breeds Survival Trust in 2018, she started needle felting. the watchlist as her contribution to raising the profile of rare breed sheep because she is unable to keep sheep at home. She is still needle felting the watchlist so her rare breed collection now includes goats, cows and ponies.
Living where she does and being a keen photographer, she also needle felts the local wildlife and landscape.
Jane’s work in the shop includes Herdwick and Swaledale sheep, some of her rare breed collection including Castlemilk Moorit and Devon and Cornwall Longwool, and one of her Ullswater landscapes. She also has a selection of greetings cards and coasters.
Jane has only been a member of The Wool clip since the beginning of August 2024.
